History & description
St Vincent de Paul in Over Hulton dates from 1985 and was designed by the Greenhalgh & Williams Partnership. An earlier chapel, built in 1968-1969 to a design by Richard Byrom of Hill & Partners, became the parish hall when the new church opened. The parish itself was established in 1972 from St Ethelbert's.
Recognising the building
The red-brick church has a low west tower, round-headed windows, small transepts and an apsidal sanctuary. A statue of St Vincent de Paul with children occupies a niche in the tower. These familiar church forms are combined in a relatively small twentieth-century building.
Interior details
Taking Stock describes exposed brickwork, a white marble altar and an octagonal black-and-white marble font. The older pews came from a Manchester convent. The neighbouring hall preserves the earlier phase of Catholic worship on this site.
